Date of birth
[edit]The date of birth (25 October 1874) quoted in the article is from Holley & Chalk's The Alphabet of the Saints which is usually well researched and reliable. An article in the Dundee Evening Telegraph says "He was, indeed, born in Dundee in 1871" [1], whilst www.allfootballers.com gives a date of birth as 1870. Gainsborough Trinity
[edit]I have added information about Petrie's career at Gainsborough Trinity. I am 100% certain it is the same player as both are the same age and were born in Dundee. I have pictures of Petrie at Gainsborough and Sheffield Wednesday and they are the same person. I am researching Fred Spisksley and co-writing his biography. The both played together for Gainsborough and Wednesday.
The only thing that may need amending is the number of competative games he played for Gainsborough. As my records are not with me at this time. He definately played the number of games I have recorde and scored no goals. But some of the matches may not be league matches. Gainsborough played in the Midland League at this time and therefore these fixures may not count if it is only Football League games that Wikipedia is after. I will leave it to the experts to decide the best course of action
